Our relationship with the Lomé, Togo and Kumasi, Ghana Chapters:
PTPI is “International” and as such, sometimes friendships are made between members of different countries & chapters, as in this case. John Paton and wife, Joan Thompson of the Los Angeles Chapter visited Newlove Bobson, Chapter President and their adoptive son, in Lomé, Togo (not sure of year), and subsequently the Lome, Togo Chapter and the LA Chapters became sister Chapters. Natalie Besse, member of Los Angeles Chapter, was friends on Facebook with Clement Badu, Chapter President in Kumasi, Ghana and with Newlove Bobson, and visited both Togo & Ghana in 2016 in order to start joint Chapter PTPI humanitarian projects. Natalie and her family eventually adopted Clement as their son. |
Five joint projects have been completed from 2017 to present as follows:
-School Building in Togo, including desks, chairs, school supplies & books
-Library Building in Togo which was destroyed by heavy rain/flooding.
-Water trough in Togo, to catch rainwater
-Library in Ghana, including desks, chairs, school supplies & books
-Library in another village in Ghana, including desks, chairs, school supplies & books
Natalie has returned to both countries for “opening” ceremonies for four of the projects, and with each trip, takes donated supplies from the Los Angeles Chapter for the school and for various orphanages.
The Los Angeles Chapter donates the funding for the projects, and the Togo & Ghana Chapters make all arrangements for the construction of the projects, and oversee the projects through to completion.
A wonderful collaborative effort between all three chapters. Efforts which help promote President Eisenhower’s PTPI’s mission and vision.......Peace through Understanding.
The plan is to continue the projects in Togo & Ghana, one village at a time, and to expand to other countries in Africa.
