Peace Through Understanding
Founded in 1956 by President Dwight D. Eisenhower, People to People International promotes international understanding and friendship through educational, cultural and humanitarian activities. PTPI is a private sector, not-for-profit 501 (c)(3) organization headquartered in Kansas City, Missouri, USA.
PTPI community programs allow adults, as well as their families, to connect with like-minded individuals and to spread Peace through Understanding at home or abroad. The Los Angeles, California, Chapter was chartered in 1997. In the years since our inception, we have hosted over seventy visitors from around the globe and participated in numerous humanitarian initiatives both here at home and abroad.
Since 2011, PTPI LA has been a proud partner chapter to PTPI's Lomé, Togo, Chapter. For more information on our past, present, and future endeavors, please feel free to visit our Programs page. School construction in the village of Amadenta, supported by the Lomé, Togo, chapter and the Greater LA chapter in cooperation.
ALso beginning in 2011, PTPI LA hosted six delegations brought to the U.S. by Open World, a program funded by Congress to allow young professionals from Eastern Europe and Asia to learn about American institutions.
